About

I'm a software engineer with 14 years shipping across the stack — full-stack web, mobile, backend, platforms, payments and telematics. I like the unglamorous parts: billing rails, lifecycle orchestration, observability, the systems that have to be correct at 3am.

Today I'm on Microsoft's Consumer Commerce team in Redmond, building the subscription infrastructure behind Microsoft 365, Copilot and Xbox Game Pass. After hours I self-host most of my own infra and build open, privacy-first side projects.

Experience

Software Engineer II @ Microsoft

Dec 2021 — Present · Redmond, WA

89M+ M365 subscribers reached · ~94% faster incident iteration · 0 hard-coded credentials

Equipped engineers across the platform — not just my team — with a tested, production-ready high-severity response capability.

Develop and ship features for Microsoft's Consumer Purchase & Subscriptions platform — the purchase, renewal, and billing flows behind Xbox Game Pass and Microsoft 365, reaching 89M+ Microsoft 365 consumer subscribers and Xbox's global gaming base.

  • Engineered, from the ground up, a PowerShell script-execution framework that hot-loads and instantly validates scripts across INT and production environments.
  • Secured the framework end-to-end with Managed Identity — eliminating hard-coded credentials and certificate-based auth entirely — in full compliance with Microsoft's Secure Future Initiative (SFI).
  • Replaced one-off C# solutions and the write-code → PR → build → test cycle with native bulk operations, cutting incident iteration time from a full day to under 30 minutes in outages that can affect millions within minutes.
  • Shape architecture for scalable, distributed services, using Kusto to drive telemetry-based diagnostics and operational insight.

Case study: deleting the feedback loop (~94% faster incident response)

Senior Engineer, Payment Authorization @ Target

Aug 2020 — Dec 2021

Co-designed the next-generation payment architecture behind the phased rollout across Target store locations.

Built backend services (Spring Boot, Spring Core, Spring MVC, JDBC Template) powering real-time payment authorization for a phased rollout across Target store locations.

  • Developed gRPC services letting point-of-sale devices interact and synchronize state in real time across the phased deployment.
  • Co-designed a distributed, scalable microservices architecture for next-generation payment processing.
  • Automated infrastructure provisioning with Chef cookbooks in Ruby, and expanded automated test coverage to strengthen the authorization pipeline.

Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack @ Lender Price

Mar 2016 — Aug 2020 · Pasadena, CA

<5 min per rate import, from hours · 1000s precision imports daily

Grew the team — mentored and onboarded new engineers and interns while owning the platform's core algorithm as primary developer.

Advanced from R&D intern to Senior Full-Stack Engineer on the pricing engine, digitizing core mortgage pricing workflows for faster, more accurate loan-pricing decisions.

  • Led development, as primary developer, of a proprietary rate-detection algorithm that auto-identified incoming file types (Excel, PDF, Word, text) and discovered table structures — bordered or borderless — mapping data fields to headers with no manual configuration.
  • Cut manual rate imports from hours to under 5 minutes per file, letting the platform reliably process thousands of precision imports daily, including automatic detection of rate changes across file versions.
  • Architected a modular, multi-tenant platform; integrated Apache Kafka for real-time ingestion and Docker to isolate customer code execution.
  • Connected the platform with one of the largest U.S. loan servicers; prototyped an ML/OCR pipeline (Tesseract, OpenCV) for PDF table recognition and mentored new engineers and interns.

$1.13M client savings · -30% customer support calls · +25% module efficiency

Directed technical-specification review for a U.S. oil major; senior developer on Infosys' Best Project in the Energy vertical.

Owned requirement elicitation, design documentation, and architecture across the full software development lifecycle for energy-sector clients — refactoring legacy systems and automating deployment.

  • Senior developer on a Production Optimization Toolkit (UK oil major) integrating third-party simulators (Petex GAP, AspenTech HYSYS) — named Infosys' Best Project in the Energy vertical and driving $1.13M in client savings through reduced cycle time.
  • Directed technical-specification review for critical oil-well construction equipment (U.S. oil major), reducing HSE and business risk.
  • Refactored legacy code for 25%+ gains in module efficiency; authored QA and test plans that cut customer support calls by 30%.
